Practical Assessment
Hands-on conclusions and dated facts from implementing this Docus sample.
Practical Assessment
This assessment was last researched and rebuilt on 2026-07-19. Opinions below come from this repository; version and feature claims link to sources that can be checked independently.
Hands-on observations
- The smallest useful bilingual site is pleasantly content-first: the Docus layer supplies layouts, navigation, search, color mode, and Nuxt Content routing with little local application code.
- The layer is also opinionated. Anything the theme configuration does not expose — even restyling the header brand link — needs one shadowed layer component, which is normal Nuxt-layer behavior but less obvious than editing a theme config.
- Static export works, but GitHub Pages compatibility still needs deliberate
baseURLandautoSubfolderIndexsettings. The default starter documents a server build, not this exact nested static deployment. - MDC and Nuxt UI components make rich pages easy. The trade-off is a much larger dependency and build surface than a minimal Markdown SSG.
Verifiable snapshot
| Item | Observed fact |
|---|---|
| Installed Docus | 5.12.3, pinned in package.json |
| Foundation | Nuxt 4, Nuxt Content, Nuxt UI, and Nuxt Image, listed by the official Docus repository |
| Runtime requirement | Docus 5's starter uses Nuxt 4 and a better-sqlite3 12 peer dependency |
| Search | Docus documents client-side Fuse.js search as the default and optional browser FTS5 in its configuration guide |
| i18n | The official repository includes a dedicated i18n starter with locale-prefixed content trees |
| Static output | This project uses Nuxt's nuxt generate; .output/public contains all 38 locale pages as directory indexes |
Selection summary
Docus is a strong choice when a team wants a polished Nuxt-native documentation experience and values MDC, Nuxt UI, search, image integration, and generated navigation out of the box. Prefer a smaller SSG when dependency weight and minimal abstraction matter more than those bundled capabilities.
