Docusaurus assessment

This assessment separates observations from externally checkable facts. The maintenance snapshot and linked sources were checked on 2026-07-19.

Bottom line

Hands-on impression

Docusaurus is the most complete “docs platform” baseline in this comparison. The classic theme, MDX, generated navigation, localization, diagrams, and static output fit together coherently. That breadth also produces more build machinery and client JavaScript than a deliberately small Markdown generator.

Researched facts

Docusaurus 3.10.2 is the current stable release and was published on 2026-07-10. The official 3.10 announcement calls 3.10 the last v3 minor line and provides opt-in v4 future flags. The current core package is executed here with Bun 1.3.14. This is a compatibility result verified by this project rather than an upstream Bun support guarantee.

Strengths

Hands-on impression

The default theme is production-ready while remaining easy to reshape through Infima variables and swizzled React components. Autogenerated sidebars and a strong MDX toolchain make a medium or large documentation tree feel organized.

Researched facts

Static generation, MDX, i18n, versioning, filesystem sidebars, dark mode, and the official Mermaid theme are documented Docusaurus capabilities. This sample uses each except versioning. The classic theme also supplies responsive navigation and a page table of contents.

Concerns and trade-offs

Hands-on impression

Configuration is explicit but spread across the site config, sidebar data, custom CSS, and locale content tree. Teams should budget for React/MDX dependencies and retest any theme swizzles when upgrading.

Researched facts

Docusaurus normally omits the default locale from its URL. This project instead builds each locale independently with explicit /en/ and /ja/ base URLs so its routes match every other docfw-cmp sample. The offline search UI is not core: it comes from @easyops-cn/docusaurus-search-local, version 0.55.2 here. Search, the React counter, Mermaid, and SPA navigation require JavaScript, although the document body is present in the prerendered HTML.

Maintenance snapshot — 2026-07-19

Docusaurus has a current stable release, extensive official documentation, and an announced v4 migration path. The selected local-search project declares Docusaurus v2/v3 compatibility and published 0.55.2 in May 2026. It remains a community dependency, so its compatibility is verified by this build rather than guaranteed by Docusaurus.

Decision guidance

Choose Docusaurus when documentation needs a broad integrated feature set, React/MDX extensions, localization, or future versioned docs. Prefer a smaller generator when the application cannot justify the dependency surface or when zero client-side enhancement is a hard requirement.
